Selecting colours is a critical exercise in the early stage of any new piece of art. This is the birth of a new pastel and the choice of colours can make or break the whole narrative of what I, the artist, am trying to convey to the viewer. Colours state the mood and emotional value to the painting... The result is only revealed on completion and once colours are committed to paper they cannot be removed in pastels.
